Once the Original Euro-Designed
Mercedes-engine fortwo reached U.S. shores, all original
manufacturer's warranties were void. This is standard for
cars that are not offered for sale by the manufacturer in the U.S.
The cars were technically "used" once the conversion was complete, but
apart from this technicality, the cars were new in every respect.
For the first thirty (30)
days, and as the federal government requires, any problems with your
smart fortwo are covered by G&K Auto Conversion.
G&K covers all safety components of
the fortwo for a period of five (5) years from your date of
purchase. G&K also covers the emissions system for a period
of eight (8) years from your date of purchase.
Unless refused by purchaser, each of our
Smart Cars comes with a
5-year/50,000-mile warranty, excluding wear-related items
such as brakes and tires. The
tires have their own warranty.
Warranty repairs can be made in St. Louis or by any mechanic
anywhere in the U.S. and Canada who
wishes to repair the smart car.
Warranty service locations are not limited
to specific locations or dealerships. If you need service outside
your geographical area and can find a mechanic locally, the warranty
will be honored.
We include a free
Smart Car Repair CD for
our customers. It can help both the owner and their mechanic in
troubleshooting a repair.
We want to be involved in every phase of
your ownership in order to make your smart purchase as satisfying as
possible. Your smart car-buying experience should be as smooth
and hassle free as possible.
The smart fortwo may not yet appear in most
insurance carriers' data bases. If the model is not listed, they may
be able to quote a premium based on "stated amount," especially if
you are an existing customer. Most of our customers have had no
trouble insuring their new Smart Cars with their current insurance
company. A partial list of other insurance companies
that may consider the smart fortwo are
listed here.
Recent information found in a web forum is
very positive for smart cars. It indicates that an official
insurance rating company has recently given the smart car fortwo
coupes an ISO rating of 8 and the cabrio (convertible) and ISO
rating of 13. These are exceptionally good numbers since the scale
ranges from 7 (the best) to 23. Provide this information to your
insurance company if they were not aware of this.
The costs of shipping, conversion,
customs-assessed fees, duties and taxes incurred in bringing the car
into the U.S., the smart fortwo is priced higher than those sold
abroad.
Base
pricing for our Smart fortwo Passion Coupe starts at $25,900 without
warranty and $26,900 with
5-year/50,000-mile warranty. The cabrio
model starts at $28,900 without the warranty and $29,900 with the warranty. Detailed pricing, features and extras

The 2008-2009 smart car pricing ranges from $14,000 to $16,000 for
Passion Coupes (including Dealer Prep, etc.) and $17,000 to $19,000
for the 2008-2009 cabrios.
